I have 23 years experience as a Consultant. I was trained as a General Ophthalmologist, and have always had a special interest in Neuro-ophthalmology. Until 2005 I regularly performed a wide range of microsurgical operations:

cataract (small incision, sutureless),
glaucoma,
lid and squint surgery.

In December 2005, following a neuro-muscular problem with my arm I discontinued surgical practice.

Although retired from full-time NHS practice since August 2008, I am still actively involved in the diagnosis and management, including pre-and post-operative management, of the whole range of ophthalmic conditions:

lid malposition and inflammation,
ocular surface disease, including 'dry eye' and allergic problems,
assessment of squint and double vision,
visual loss due to cataract, macular disease or neurological disorders,
diagnosis and management of glaucoma.

I also maintain active clinical involvement with specialist neuro-ophthalmology cases, the visual effects of pituitary tumours, neuro-vascular problems including:

aneurysm and stroke,
optic neuropathy, ischaemic, demyelinating and other inflammatory causes,
demyelinating conditions affecting vision or ocular motility,
orbital tumours and orbital inflammatory diseases. including dysthyroid eye disease

I have a special interest in patients with 'unexplained visual loss' (previously referred to as 'functional' visual loss).

I am happy to see any patients referred by their General Practitioner for consultation at either Liverpool or Wrexham.

In London, I only see clients for Medico-legal purposes, as geography precludes taking appropriate ongoing clinical responsibility which is vital for proper patient care.
